Burn Ban In Effect For Gordon County...Outdoor yard waste will no longer be allowed, at least not until next fall! Beginning May 1, Gordon, as well as 53 other Georgia counties, will be under the annual statewide burn ban. According to Gordon County Fire/Rescue Assistant Chief Byron Sutton, the Environmental Protection Division’s ban on outdoor burning will be in effect from May 1 – September 30 in order to improve air quality during the summer months. Chief Sutton also states, “We just wanted to do our part to send a reminder to our citizens that this environmentally-driven ban is only days away. Inevitably, we get those dispatches to those who are burning but state they did not know about the ban, or that it is in effect. With the cost of fuel these days, we are trying to do what we can to curtail the unnecessary responses of our apparatus; therefore, saving the taxpayers money,” Chief Sutton said. In addition, citizens should be mindful that if caught burning during the ban, they could be fined from $300 - $3000 for the violation.
